Dadeldhura: Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba and Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba participated in the annual Ugratara Fair, locally known as Dehijat, in the far-western region of Nepal. The fair, which began on Friday evening, concluded Saturday evening, attracting a large number of devotees.
During the event, former Prime Minister Deuba received Prashad and pledged to prioritize infrastructure development for the Veda Bidhyashram at the Ugratara site.
The Ugratara Fair is a deeply rooted cultural and religious tradition observed annually on Kartik Shukla Purnima and Kartik Shukla Pratipada. The nighttime celebration is known as Ratedi, while the daytime festivities on Pratipada are called Diyusedi.
According to Tej Bahadur Sanki, Chairman of the Ugratara Area Development Committee, devotees from Sudurpaschim Province, Karnali Province, and even neighboring India flocked to the site to participate in the fair.
Worshiping the Ugratara Goddess is believed to bring an end to natural disasters and bestow peace and happiness upon devotees. This year’s fair highlighted the region's rich cultural heritage and drew attention to the need for infrastructure to further support the event's growing significance.
